With over 25 years immersed in property development, Dean Ward has done the work most industry commentators only theorise about. He has sat across the table from investors, walked unbuilt sites, and made million-pound decisions on the kind of timeline that leaves no room for guesswork. That depth of hands-on experience is what makes him one of the most credible voices in proptech today, and it's precisely why PropSmarts exists.

Dean didn't set out to build a software company. He set out to solve a problem that was costing him, and everyone around him, time and opportunity. Time and again, he watched promising sites get passed over, not because the fundamentals were weak, but because the feasibility process was too slow to keep pace with the market. Sales data lived in one place, demographics in another, financial modelling somewhere else entirely. Pulling it all together into a clear, confident decision could take days. In a market where the best opportunities don't wait, days are often the difference between winning a site and losing it to someone faster.

This wasn't an abstract industry inefficiency to Dean. It was his daily reality, repeated across years and countless deals. That lived frustration is what gives PropSmarts its edge: it wasn't designed by technologists guessing at what developers might need. It was built by a developer who knew exactly what was broken, because he'd been the one losing sleep over it.

In 2020, Dean set out to fix it properly. He founded PropSmarts with a singular ambition: build the platform he'd always wished existed, one that puts sales data, market insight, demographics, and financial clarity into a single, accessible view. No more chasing down fragmented sources. No more delays while the market moves on without you. Just the information professionals need, the moment they need it.

That ambition has made Dean a recognised authority well beyond his home market. He speaks regularly at industry events around the world, sharing the insight that comes from being both a practitioner and an innovator, and bringing a global perspective to a sector that's often surprisingly local in its thinking. Today, he continues to lead PropSmarts with the same focus that drove its founding: help the industry move faster, reduce risk, and replace friction with clarity. For the developers, investors, and agents who use the platform, that means a partner who has already lived their problem, and built the answer to it.

Outside of PropSmarts, Dean's commitment to building things that last shows up closer to home too. He lives in Swansea with his family, coaches local youth rugby having played the game himself, and chairs the South Wales Regional Learning and Skills Partnership, work focused on developing the next generation of regional talent.
